Forgotten Boardwalk invites you to name its cat

Written by

Forgotten BoardwalkForgotten Boardwalk Brewing introduces its company logo and offers a slice of long-lost lore from the boards.

From Jamie Queli, a co-owner of the under-construction 30-barrel brewery in Cherry Hill, comes a faded backstory of the boardwalk's association with the feral cat, plus an invitation to name the brewery's cat, apparently the three-eyed boxing one in the Forgotten Boardwalk logo:

"The feral cat is the sideshow attraction and mascot to the boardwalk. No one quite knows exactly when the undomesticated felines made their homes under the piers, but most say it happened when the boardwalk was first built back in the 1880s. The reason? Some say it’s due to the scraps of food dropped by tourists that slip through the cracks of the planks. These curious creatures have roamed the boardwalks for over a century, spending their days in the shadows largely undetected by human eyes …"

Send your name suggestions to their Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing.

Most craft beer enthusiast in New Jersey know of Forgotten Boardwalk Brewing for its summertime announcement that it had leased what was Flying Fish Brewing's founding location in a Cherry Hill business park.

Flying Fish brewed at the 13,500-square-foot Olney Avenue unit for 16-plus years before relocating to a much larger site 10 miles away in Somerdale.

BoxingCatForgotten Boardwalk is in the early stages of setting up shop. The company's plans call for to producing five brews for distribution from a 30-barrel Criveller system. Plans also call for using a 1- to 2-barrel pilot system to produce another 50 to 60 beers and bench-test the brewery's creativity and cycle those beers through the taps of a planned 2,500-square-foot boardwalk-themed tasting room.
